What does a Galley look like on an unnamed research vessel of undetermined size, not yet built in Taiwan for a yet unnamed major global corporation, which has so far not accepted my invitation to be the prime contractor for this project?
It was the prednisone talking, in pre-election 2020, about noodle making at Spyglass before the Doc died. Poison Oak had my arms oozing copious amounts of a salad dressing like substance. Yes, the Doc had a working commercial kitchen at Spyglass. I might just go back to photograph that. A legitimate, deductible, expense this, or not worth the effort?
The Doc was in the Navy, turned Army from Brooklyn, running a big family operation in California well into his 90’s. I would stand up when he arrived at Spyglass on Fridays, and he would mostly ignore me. The Doc will be remembered in the movie, but I still need to think out the galley, and that is hard to do without knowing the crew size.
The prednisone had me not sleeping, and thinking about noodles, research vessels, and sustainable societies, lying awake listening to every album I had owned in 1974, with headphones on via my I phone. I decided then, I would need five of them, at various locations, each would have a noodle factory within easy walking distance of berthing. Crew could make noodles and do research, on land or asea, prednisone.
All this was when the Covid hit the fan, and we were mostly locked down up in the hills of Avila, and when the prednisone kicked in and the pus stopped flowing, I found myself thinking yet again about coastal defense systems, and the human resources needed to make them function. I forgot about all of it, Doc, the ships, the noodles, and Spyglass, until now years later, three thousand miles away, sitting here trying to craft a screen play.
No, I did not try to get my five research vessels financed or built; I never made a batch of noodles in my life. But you can rest assured, whatever the galley set ends up looking like, there will be noodles made in it.
I love what you're doing or have done. Please stay motivated and encouraged and everyone please subscribe to Andrew's substack!!
The only spyglass I know is in Pismo Beach California. Shell beach to be per size. Can you drive over the hill from San Luis Obispo and the entire Pacific opens up to you. I spent a lot of time in that little shopping area right off Spyglass. Oh yes this because you mentioned the central coast in spyglass in another continent. Thank you for sharing all your stories and look forward to more! 💞
